Response to Last Semester

On Regina O’Donnell’s post “Soundtrack of My Life” she has the music video for Nelly-Number One. She relates the song to her winning the state championship for soccer. I can easily relate to this but in softball. I’ve played many games and traveled everywhere for tournaments. I’ve been to about 6 National Tournaments. One year my team made about 25th out of about 116 teams. The year after that there was only about 96 teams total and we managed to get one spot closer in the 24th position. We never did win nationals but it was all a lot of fun. The last year I went to nationals with a team that I subbed for. We made 8th in the nation in Class B. I had never been to a Class B nationals before but it still felt great knowing we got 8th.

As Nelly’s song reminds me of all these amazing times it directly relates to the time we won the Ralston tournament. After cramming 1-4 games in a single day, leaving the ballpark at 1 AM and having to be back there at 7 AM, playing until we could barely play anymore we beat the 2nd best team. First place was ours. “We Are the Champions” from Queen started playing over the speakers as they announced the accomplishment to the whole park and announced our names as we ran to Home plate to accept our medals. Along with medals for each of us we got t-shirts and pictures taken for their wall of fame. It was one of the best feelings I’ve ever had.
